Favourite Duolingo Memes
There are so many apps available that will let you farm a cute ranch, shoot slime balls at other slime balls, and even crush some kind of candy. It’s nice to remember that there are some apps out there that can help you learn a new language right from your phone, wherever you are. It balances the scales a little.
These self-improvement apps like Idyoma and Duolingo sometimes have a mascot to make them more memorable and make the learning more fun. Duolingo, for instance, has a well-known green owl animation. If you’ve ever dedicated some daily time to your Duolingo pursuit of language, you’ll know the green owl can be a thing of nightmares.
From passive aggressive reminders to practice or else and manipulative sad little owl emails, the Duolingo owl quickly becomes your worst enemy.
As Duolingo has over 300 million registered users as of today, it’s no surprise that the likes of Twitter and Reddit have exposed the Duo bird for what he really is - a fantastic, relatable meme.
In fact, there’s an entire Duolingo subreddit filled with scary and suspect interactions with the dreaded green bird. We’ve netted some of the best Duolingo memes on the internet below, including some *chefs kiss* screenshots of the most bizarre things Duo sometimes says to its users.

3. Is Duo Trying to Tell us Something?
Ok, Duolingo memes can take a back seat. Is the green owl of doom finally confessing to his deeds? The remaining two words aren’t very comforting either.
4. The Owl-ing, Coming Soon to Cinemas Worldwide
Spanish seemse to be Duo’s favourite language to pressure and guilt you into learning. I wonder if he ever puts the time in to learning a language himself? How the tables turn!
5. We’ve All Been Here
He’s always there, waiting in your unopened emails. At least after a few weeks he stops pestering you at last!
6. Duolingo Can Get a Little Too Heavy With the Truth Bombs
Thank you, Duolingo, that real helps my fluency and comprehension. I guess the truth hurts, even when it’s coming from a green bird.
7. He Looks So Happy to be a Duck
Not only is it impressive that a duck can speak English, it’s also amazing that a duck might be using Duolingo to brush up on his language learning skills. Well, if an owl can send threatening messages then a duck can learn a new language!
8. Look into his Eyes, That’s Not a Coincidence
You probably recognise the alert from a popular political faux pas, but maybe it’s no accident that Duo’s threatening glare hovers just above that message.
