Most Fun Destinations
1.Napoli, Italy
2.New Orleans, US
3.Cumbria, UK
4.Maui, Hawaii
5.Havana, Cuba
6.Marrakech, Morocco
1. Napoli, The Most Fun Destination in Italy
This bustling, vibrant city in Italy takes the first spot in this list of most fun destinations. A particularly romantic getaway, Napoli has so much to offer in terms of food, entertainment, historical sites, and lively locals.
The first thing to remember about visiting Napoli (and everywhere on this list) is that learning the lingo will help with every aspect of visiting. There are tonnes of useful learning resources online and of course great language learning apps like Idyoma if you want to learn Italian the easy way.
From the moment you wake up, you’ll be greeted by the sound and sights of locals grabbing their not-too-early morning espresso coffees. Napoli is historically touted as the most fun destinations as it’s the birthplace of not only pizza but the true Italian Espresso coffee, so be sure to try it out in one of the multiple cafés you’ll find in the beautiful city centres. When it comes to night-time, you’ll also be blown away by how late all your new favourite spots stay open. Since the climate calls for a midday rest and siesta, most cafes, restaurants, cinemas, and restaurants stay open late, most eateries are open past midnight! So, when those late-night snack urges hit and you haven’t quite gotten your fill of true Napoli pizza, there’s guaranteed to be a family-owned pizzeria just a short walk away. Not to mention the locals are forgiving if you’re not quite fluent in Italian yet.
If you’re travelling with the family, Napoli is an ideal spot for tourist and historical attractions too. Both Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius are easy to get to by public transport and offer full days of fun and exploration in the sun.
2. New Orleans, The Liveliest Destination In The US
This city is over 300 years old and has a lot to show for it as one of the most fun destinations. The reason New Orleans takes the number two spot in this list is because of its spectacular and world-renowned festival, Mardi Gras. The city is known for its friendly, talkative, and kind locals who are usually happy to share a bit of the local wisdom and legendary customs with you, as it’s a city steeped in history and mysticism.
For food, you won’t want to miss out on famous Beignets and king cake. And if you’re visiting New Orleans, well, you’ve got to experience the energetic restaurant, bar and night scene in the French Quarter. This area is known as the heart of the city and is built on higher ground of the banks of the iconic Mississippi River. Bourbon Street might be the most familiar to you with its popular food and night scene, while the other streets provide galleries, clubs, and shopping galore.
Once you’ve had enough of everything the city centre has to offer, you can pay a visit to the City Park, full of natural and man-made attractions like the New Orleans Art Museum and the Duelling Oaks.
3. Cumbria, The Most Beautiful Spot In The UK
If you’re a native Brit, you might be surprised to see the UK on a list of most fun destinations at all. However, if your definition of fun is having endless places to explore, relax and enjoy nature, then Cumbria ticks all of the boxes. Cumbria comprises the Lake District and all of its many gorgeous lakes and mountains.
For anyone looking for an active adventure to really blog about, the area has four mountains over 3000 foot. Scafell Pike is the tallest mountain in the UK, and the feeling of summitting the peak is rewarding regardless of the weather. Cumbria boasts a host of similar peaks and circular walks that are rated for both new walkers and expert hikers, so you can easily spend days at a time exploring the areas close to you and discovering new and beautiful routes through the English scenery. There is also a historical coastline to the West which offers calming surroundings ideal for summertime getaways or romantics evening walks.
The multitude of clustered, small villages and towns always offer up local shops, antique and art stores, artisanal cafes, and atmospheric pubs. Close to Scafell Pike is a popular village called Keswick; a tourist favourite spot which has everything you need for an idyllic escape.
4. Maui, The Most Fun Destination in Hawaii
Maui is Hawaii’s second largest island, an idyllic destination at position number four on our list.
This stunning and rich holiday destination was created by the conjunction of lava from two volcanoes as they erupted. The nutrient rich soil unsurprisingly means one of Maui’s top features is the abundance of natural life. Bright and ripe fruits and vegetables don’t just make up the scenery, you’ll see them on every menu in restaurants and breweries. Even if fruits and veggies aren’t your style, you’ve got to try the Maui grown coffee at Kaanapali Coffee Farms.
Once you’re filled up with all of the local produce and drinks, you can choose to visit the Haleakala Crater at Haleakala National Park where the demigod Maui lassoed the sun and cause the enormous crater, according to Hawaiian mythology. The entire area is steeped in history and natural splendour. The views available in Maui National Park definitely make it worth getting up a little earlier to make the most of the sunrise. Similarly, Lahaina Town offers a historic trail to follow and discover over 500 years of local history and myth.
Still doesn’t sound like the most fun destination for you? Perhaps you enjoy a traditional and refreshing Hawaiian shaved ice while you enjoy the Maui Whale Festival, taking in some local music on deck as whales breach around you.
5. Havana, The Hottest Spot In Cuba
Is there anywhere the ignites more passion at the mention of its name than Havana? If Cuba as a country wasn’t interesting and rich with culture enough, the expressive language and this Cuban city is arguably the hottest spot you’ll find!
First off it’s best to view Havana in its three main areas: Centro Habana, La Habana Vieja (Old Havana), and Vedado. They each have plenty to offer, but the fun will usually start with a typical car tour through the gorgeous city with stops at famous local restaurants and hotels. Next, you’ll want to find a rum and cocktail bar by the beach and try out traditional dancing and salsa deep into the evening. Would it really be Havana without sultry dancing and mojitos?
Once you wake up and feel the need for a refreshing walk, take a tour along the 8KM seawall of Old Havana, passing through Centro Habana and then into vibrant Vedado.
We know for many of you, night life is the heart of having fun, and Havana truly delivers in this regard even if hitting the clubs isn’t your idea of a good time and you’d rather be tucked up with a good film. The most fun destinations for tourists and locals alike at night is the Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña, or the Havana fort. Here you can experience night-time re-enactments of waterfront shootouts and cannon shows. You can also take in stunning sunsets across the water.
If you have more time and feel the urge to dig into the culture in Havana, take a trip to the El Bosque de la Habana, a tranquil green and swamp-like forest area that is just a little unexpected in such a spirited, constantly moving city.
You could also take a peek behind the infamy of the Cuban cigar and how the tobacco is made and processed in the Vinales Valley. As once you are in Cuba, you can try the world-famous Cuban cigars like Cohiba Siglo, Sancho Panza cigar, or Montecristo Double Edmundo.
6. Marrakech, The Best Of Morocco
The sound of ginbirs (three strong banjos) and the constant din of hurried bustling through the streets is what you’ll notice first and miss the most about visiting Marrakesh. Move it or lose it should be the motto for this destination that seems almost as if it erupted from the ground one day, already pulsing with the everyday movement and vibrancy of its people.
Don’t be dismayed by the locals’ apparent preoccupation, though. Being the perfect hosts and providing tourists with everything they need has been the primary concern of Jemaa el-Fna for centuries, and has been a great source of business for the locals.
You might be tempted to stop and take in the glorious architecture of sites like Jardin Majorelle or the museum of Yves Saint Laurent, but do as the local Marrakchis do. Keep moving! In particular, make it to and through as many souks (markets) as you can. These high-spirited market-places are an experience for all the senses and simply can’t be missed. Try the Souk Semmarine, the most famous and highly popular for tourists.
The food and splendour on offer might drive you to distraction, but hold out for the real spectacle of Marrakech, the Jemaa el-Fna. Considered the ever-beating heart of the medina, this open square can provide for your every whim and fancy, from foreign snacks and decadent treats to henna artistry and shops.
Keep Exploring…
Even with travel and safety restrictions in place, these delightful destinations will be preparing and waiting for your visit. Now more than ever these tourist hot-spots and the local people who make a living there will rely on the slow trickle of travellers who do decide to come. If we keep travelling and continue discovering new countries, languages, and cultures, the rich tapestry of the world will carry us through the tougher days.
